Obscured partial barrel markings on approx. 69 cal. smooth bore 42 1/2'' barrel. Letter of provenance is provided with this gun stating the gun was found in a dry root cellar in a field adjacent to Little Big Top, still clutched by the petrified remains of confederate soldier Robert Smith in 1982. Letter is from direct descendant of the original land owners. 1857 Remington Maynard conversion, one of only 20,000 with this conversion before the Civil War. Stock is overall very good with minor dings to b expected. Socket bayonet is included. Overall 58'' excluding bayonet, 74 1/2'' overall with bayonet.
